Historical Background

Justification for a new college and its viability

Hingalganj is an isolated Block at the Northern-most part of the Sundarban. It is surrounded by some off-more islands like Hasnabad, Bhandarkhali, Gosaba and so others. The Block is separated from the Mainland by the river Raimangal, Kalindi etc. It is situated at the of border side of Bangladesh. About 2, 00,000 people mostly from SC/ST/OBC live here in different islands of the Block. In the block there are 38 H.S. schools & 7 Madhyamik schools. About 4000 students of different categories pass out Madhyamik & (10+2) examination every year. Most of them are dropped out due to poverty of their parents. About 20% students of minority families passed Madhyamik & H.S. every year & 50% are females of them. Most of the families are of conservative types. They prefer to let them marriage than sending to colleges. On this issue the Govt. of West Bengal has a plan to sanction a free bicycle for each of the girls after passing class VIII. The sources of income of about 90% people of the Block are Fishing & Cultivation. They cannot afford to send their sons and daughters to colleges and bear expenditure there because they have to remain in hostels, messes etc. There are few Teachers Training College (B.ED.) in Hingalganj Block & also rose of block. Maximum no. of students of these blocks goes to take training outside of dist. & also outside of Bengal. If the proposed college gets reorganization, most of the students will be able to join the college and get Higher Education at a low cost.

The N.G.O has got more than 3 acres of land for the purpose of its Educational Complex. The Governing Body of the N.G.O has decided & passed a resolution to donate about the land for the use of proposed B.ED. College (Total area of land 13359.48 Sq.mts). The N.G.O and the organizing Committee of the proposed college has already completed construction of 1500.93 Sq.mts. for the proposed B.ED. College. Various types of persons like Educationalist, Social Workers, N.G.O Representatives and Panchayat Representatives of Hingalganj Block organized a meeting for establishing a B.ED. College in the promises of Baghajatin Swami Vivekananda Welfare Society. In that meeting the house solemnly remembered the Social Welfare Activities of Late Sri Anilkrishna Mondal, Ex- Headmaster and his thirst for spreading Higher Education among the poor students of the Block and unanimously resolved to rename the B.ED. College as SUNDARBAN ANILKRISHNA MAHAVIDYALAYA (B.Ed.) [BED-ERCAPP466 & DELED-ERCAPP3678].
